The Ironhorse District held their fifth annual Christmas in January community collection and Eagle Scout Memorial Blood Drive in early January. Locals came out on Sunday, Jan. 6 to give blood and donate items for the Salvation Army Jan. 5-6 at Cavitt Junior High. Granite Bay Boy Scout Troop 121 and the Granite Bay Kiwanis Club also coordinated the 18th annual real Christmas trees recycling drive during the first weekend in January. The blood drive collected 29 pints of blood, 85 bags of food, 110 personal hygiene kits, 36 cell phones, 47 pairs of eyeglasses, seven sleeping bags and completely filled a semi trailer with items. Agencies, that benefited from donations included BloodSource, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul, Call to Protect, Bayside Homeless Outreach and the Lions Club of Folsom.
