Supervisor Kirk Uhler opened public comment at the Jan. 9 Granite Bay MAC meeting with comments about the passing of Granite Bay resident Ron Bakken, describing him as a kind and knowledgeable man "who always knew how to disagree without being disagreeable."

During public comment a resident said the recently approved Granite Bay Car Wash will have a negative impact on the adjacent 57 acres to the south.

One resident expressed his concern that the MAC Minutes are inadequate because they do not reflect the name of the speaker. MAC member Jill Ernst pointed out that all Placer County MACs have required that the Minutes not reflect specific names for legal liability reasons.

The resident who owns the 57 acres south of Quarry Ponds said that he opposes any further commercial development because what has been developed at Quarry Ponds violates many elements of the existing Granite Bay Community Plan.

During Committee Reports David Kaiser mentioned the Fire Department wants Granite Bay citizens to adhere to the proper burn days and the Sheriff Department reported some smash and grab auto burglaries. Park Committee Chair Steve Nash confirmed that on March 29, there will be a tree and shrub planting day.

As an information item MAC Member Jill Ernst presented the Granite Bay MAC Design Elements and Landscape Goals. For a list of design elements, visit the MAC Web site and read the complete minutes.

The Quarry Ponds East Medical Office Project was presented by Lisa Powers as an information item. The proposal consists of a 40,000-square-foot building (made with the same material as Quarry Ponds) with medical clinics and labs.

One resident stated that with this proposal there will be ¾ of a mile of commercial development along Douglas Boulevard. A resident commented that the proposal was not good for large medical groups and small practitioners won't be supported by the community. Another resident commented that the developer should satisfy the 17 other (alleged) violations she has with Quarry Ponds before she obtains further approval on new projects.

The MAC advised the presenter that there needs to be a buffer to the south and that the project should be scaled back.

South Placer County Fire Protection District Department Chief Tony Corado offered information on Measure F.

Chief Corado explained that every four years, the fire protection district has had to request authorization to exceed the appropriations limitation imposed by the California Constitution. If Measure F is passed it will be business as usual for the Fire District. Passage will not result in any increase in fees or taxes.
