Louise and Ed Moran of Granite Bay want to make some home improvements, so they spent an afternoon at Expo Daily.

"It was exciting to find a majority of my needs all in one place," says Louise. "We're re-roofing and looking at putting a walk-through in our attic space. Here you can get the information, see the products and get the help to get projects on the move."

That's the buzz from visitors who have ventured through Expo Daily's doors and explored Roseville's new home idea center. With 43,000 square feet of unmanned exhibits, it's a place where contractors, home improvement manufacturers and homeowners come together under one roof.

"We're a full contractor business service center and our main goal is to offer credibility," says operating partner Lynn Egen. "This is about our visitors having choices with no pressure. Our visitors can look, touch, feel, open, close and read without the pressure of a salesperson standing there. If they want more information they simply scan the item."

The concept of an everyday home idea center began decades ago down under. Lynn's husband, contractor Bret Egen, is from New Zealand where permanent home and garden shows thrive both on the islands and in Australia.

When lifelong friend, Graeme Blackburn and fellow entrepreneur, Tom Sparling brought the concept stateside in 2006 with Expo Daily - San Jose, they asked the Egens of Granite Bay to become operating partners of Expo Daily - Roseville.

The new center opened in November. With 150 exhibitors showing in Roseville (and the capacity to house twice that number), Expo Daily's floors, walls and 30-foot ceilings are filling up with detailed displays on cabinetry, garage storage, water features, patio covers and windows to name a few.

As visitors enter the center, located just southwest of Highway 65 and Blue Oaks Boulevard, they're offered a small scanner to record exhibit information and can pick up more details about a contractor at the end of their tour. The center's interior is built, decorated and staged entirely by the exhibitors it houses.

After investigating and comparing contractor services, visitors can immediately request an exhibitor contact them within 24 hours and even arrange the meeting in one of Expo Daily's complimentary offices. And visitors do it all without opening their wallets.

"You're going shopping where you can't spend any money," says Brett. "It's just a great information place."

Expo Daily exhibitors are required to sign on for one year and occupy a minimum of 35-square feet at $350 a month.

"It's very important to us that our visitors can come in here and feel comfortable they are using licensed contractors in good standing with the state licensing board," says Lynn. "We do a complete background check on all exhibitors and update the check on a monthly basis."

Bert and Jeanne Pate of Penn Valley are building a new house and drove 90 minutes to the Roseville center to check out the latest in bathrooms and kitchens.

"The place is absolutely beautiful," says Bert. "Once you get into the maze you feel like you belong. We even went into the bathroom and scanned the toilet. It's easy to get the information you want. Just point and click."

Exhibitor Greg Close of Rocklin owns Invisible Fence Company and has already seen an increase in sales with Expo Daily exposure.

"It does work," says Close. "I also like to use facilities here for meetings."
