Love is on the vines in Napa. For a bit of adventure and lots of fond memories, schedule a fun weekend in this neck of the woods. And stay at the historic Beazley House, billed as "Napa's first and still its finest Bed and Breakfast Inn."
This beautiful Victorian Inn is located in the Old Town neighborhood at 1910 First St., near the Napa riverfront.
The house was designed and built in 1902 by prominent Napa architect Luther Turton for Adolf Kahn, a local surgeon and politician.
With its interesting history, owners Jim and Carol Beazley took it over in 1988, making it an unbelievably comfortable and delightful place to stay. The inn features 11 cozy, well-equipped bedrooms, a living room with interesting memorabilia, dining room, kitchen and a staff willing to meet your needs.
The establishment serves as a wonderful reunion location for family and friends as well. With lush gardens and colorful blooms, it brings a smile to your lips and pleasures your senses.
Among the amenities are homemade chocolate chip cookies, nighttime brandy and the opportunity to awaken to an aromatic full breakfast. Other possibilities include spa services and adventure packages. The staff is capable and generous with their time.
It's promoted as "The most fantastic, delicious, delectable, scrumptious, mouth-watering meal."
For another not-to-be missed dining experience and within walking distance of the Beazley House, don't miss out on the romantic Ristorante Allegria located in a restored historic bank at 1026 First St. The fabulous décor of this Northern Italian restaurant, personable service and delicious cuisine please the taste buds and have you dreaming about a return visit.
For activities, check out the wonderful Napa Valley scenery.
Wind down the grape-laden vineyard roads in an escorted Jeep Tour. With the wind in your face and breathing in local scents, you can enjoy the countryside with more vigor. Knowledgeable and friendly guides will take you on a three-hour tour allowing you to learn about the area and wineries.
Recommended wineries include the Alpha Omega Winery just past Rutherford Road, Highway 128 in Rutherford. Bring along a picnic lunch and watch the ducks swim in the pond after your tour.
Traveling on to the Frank Family Vineyards at 1091 Larkmead Lane in Calistoga, you will find a friendly tasting with enthusiastic members of the family serving. Outside their front door, photo opportunities of the grapes and vines provide you colorful mementoes.
Last but not least, tasting wine at Rombauer Vineyards, with its colonial motif, is fun and delectable. Location is 3522 Silverado Trail in St. Helena.
On your way home, you might want to try the Wine Spectator Greystone Restaurant and enjoy the "Greystone Experience" especially for lunch. Less than a mile north of the town of St. Helena at 2555 Main St., it is also famous for its fabulous Culinary Institute of America.
The institute provides cooking demonstrations and tasting in the DeBaun Theatre. Reservations are needed. Learn how to make their recipes and discover the tricks of the trade. You even get to sample and the chef will pose for your photographs.
Don't forget to explore the store for gifts of incredible kitchenwares.
Here's a toast to your romantic adventures in lovely Napa and vicinity.
