What can be more American than Baseball and hot dogs?

Although the nearest Major League Baseball teams reside in the Bay Area, the Sacramento region is blessed with a minor league team - the River Cats. And many baseball fans feel that without the high priced salaries and controversies of the major leagues, the minors better encompass the ambience of this traditional American game.

Baseball fans and their families will enjoy the park's casual, friendly atmosphere. Raley Field really brings the whole experience home, with giveaways, games, and personal messages on the big screen in between innings. Whether you're out in Homerun Hill or behind home plate, you're sure to have a great day.

And what is baseball without the National Anthem? Raley Field has a tradition of using local talent for this honor. Like 12-year-old Cavitt Junior High graduate Matthew Hopper, who sang the National Anthem to start the game on Sunday, May 23.

The River Cats cater to kids and the community. Not only do they accommodate families with small children with the Coca-Cola Kids Corner, complete with playground, two bounce houses and a giant slide, but Dinger, the Cats' mascot, is the busiest cat in town with appearances in June at Bayside Church in Granite Bay among the 21 June sightings.

Watch for Dinger at the grand opening of the Granite Bay Community Park at 10 a.m. on July 24. Dinger supports non-profit events all over the Sacramento area.

In addition, young fans can join the Rookies Club for a mere $15. Members receive an official T-shirt, monthly newsletter, free admission to five select Sunday games, 20 free visits to the Coca-Cola Kids Corner, chances to throw out the first pitch or announce an inning, and a whole lot more.

Raley Field also offers birthday party packages, luxury and party suites, and group outings complete with BBQ. They even have a matrix board, which is available to display special occasion (birthdays, anniversaries) messages for free.

They also have a number of concerts and events throughout the year, including a large fireworks display and concert on the Fourth of July and the annual Hullabaloo concert with the sounds of the '60s.

Raley Field is located in West Sacramento, just west of Old Sacramento and the Sacramento River. The address at Raley Field is 400 Ballpark Drive in West Sacramento.

For information about upcoming events or directions to the stadium, call 376-4700 or check out www.rivercats.com.

Tickets may be purchased at the Raley Field Ticket Office, located at the Home Plate Entrance to Raley Field. Tickets may also be purchased at all Tickets.com outlets, including select Raley's and Bel Air Stores, by phone by calling 766-2277 or at www.rivercats.com.

One tip, however, if you are visiting on a Sunday afternoon bring a hat and something to sit on - those seats get hot!
