Mammograms can save a life – all it takes is a check by a doctor.

Free mammograms will be available to uninsured and underinsured women this month as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Sutter Roseville Medical Center is offering mammograms this Saturday, Oct. 8, and Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital will offer them on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Eight Sutter Imaging locations have offered the checks for women who may not normally have access to the life-saving checks.

“Early detection can lead to a longer, healthier life,” said Pamela Addy, director of imaging services for Sutter Medical Foundation. “Unfortunately, some women view mammograms as ‘optional,’ especially those without insurance or who have high copayments or deductibles. We want to help create better access for them and put them on a path toward wellness.”

Upon finding any abnormal results, Sutter Imaging will connect women with agencies or reviews insurance options for follow-up care.

The first free mammography day was held Oct. 1 and found one in 23 women had an abnormal result, which wouldn’t have happened without the check.
